Update goal progress
Keep your goals current by updating key result values (OKRs), metric values (KPIs), action item status (Milestones), and goal state.
Before you start
You need an Execution Scope with at least one goal. See Add a goal to your Execution Scope.
Update OKR progress
OKR progress is tracked through Key Results. Update each Key Result separately as work advances.
1. Open the goal and click Update progress
Navigate to your Execution Scope, click Goals, and open the OKR. Click the Update progress button — a dropdown appears listing each Key Result.
2. Select a Key Result
Click the Key Result you want to update. The Update progress modal opens.
3. Fill in the new value and confirm
Enter the current value for this Key Result. Optionally set the date, choose a Confidence level (Confident, Not confident, or Have concerns), and add a comment to explain the update. Click Confirm and update.
The goal's overall progress bar recalculates based on all Key Results. The update also appears in the goal's Latest updates feed.
Update KPI progress
KPI progress works the same way as OKR progress. Open the KPI goal, click Update progress, and enter the new current value in the modal. The progress bar tracks your current value against the target.
Update Milestone progress
Milestone progress is driven by the Action Plan — each item you mark as Done increases the overall progress percentage.
1. Open the Milestone goal
Navigate to your Execution Scope, click Goals, and open the Milestone.
2. Update action item status
In the Action Plan section, click the status on any action item and change it to Done, In Progress, or another status. The Milestone's progress percentage updates automatically as items are completed.
Tip: Add action items to a Milestone at any time using the Add button in the Action Plan section. Each item can have its own owner and due date.
Update goal state
State reflects the overall health of a goal, independent of measured progress. Change it when the goal's situation changes — for example, when a goal becomes active, runs into a risk, or completes.
1. Open the goal and find the State field
Open any goal (OKR, KPI, or Milestone). The State field is in the Properties panel on the right side.
2. Select a new state
Click the State field to open the dropdown and choose the state that best reflects the current situation.
State | When to use |
Green | On track |
Amber | Some risk — may need attention |
Red | Off track — needs action |
On Hold | Paused intentionally |
Completed | Goal achieved |
Archived | No longer active, not completed |
The state change is logged in the goal's Latest updates feed.
AI health assessment
For goals with active commitments, In Parallel automatically generates a health assessment — Green, Amber, or Red — based on timeline, progress, and ownership signals from the AI planner. This appears alongside the Progress card in the goal view.
The assessment includes a brief rationale (for example: "22-day timeline is aggressive with no progress on day 0 and no owner assigned"). It updates automatically after each planning cycle — you don't need to trigger it manually.
